good question george,
This matter of ayanamsha is hard to explain - it refers to the EXACT position of O degree Aries.. the beginning of the Zodiac - Is it .075 aries or .025 Aries? this is the discussion we are having,, so understand that. It is usually less than 1 degree of arc. Since the nodes are less than 1 degree of arc now from changing signs - o have just hanged signs, we are seeing it now. This is a slow transit,, it has to do with the speed of the planet and how fast it makes up that difference. The asendant usually covers the difference in a matter of minutes, the moon in a matter of hours,, but 1 degree of arc for saturn takes more than a week, same with the nodes.

The main differences seen in the ayanamsha is shown by the dasa cyles, the vargas and the ascendant,, sometimes the moon also if it is at the end or beginning of a nakshatra.

well, mr bad-ass, thanks for the compliment. as far as taking your course, i just might do that! (my moon is in ardra, so what can i say...i feel ya!) but first one more question... since the correction in ayanamsa moves the entry time of rahu into aquarius ahead by a couple weeks, it must have some effect also on the placement of the moon in nakshatras, no? and yet, we are today in ardra using either ayanamsa. is that because the moon is relativly so close (compared to distant planets or nodes) that there is no noticeable difference?

George,
This ayanamsha (solstice portion) shows exactly where the zodiac begins relative to the distant stars - it is not november 9th by the way -- the mean nodes change using Ardra, .. on october 20th - true node and mean node calculations juliaan refer to are distinctly different ..

essentially george this refers to the exact precision of vedic astrology, not to any sloppiness - or not being on the same page.

because 1 minute of astronomial arc is equal to 70 years of dasa time, the exact location of the beginning of the zodiac is cruial - Remember 1 degree of arc is 70 years of real time --

julianna and I are discussing a difference of less than two weeks, projected over thousands of years,, so - we are talking about a micro seconds of arc..

I use a different one because i see the results, no other reason. i find it is more accurate for timing.. It advanced the dasa cyle by a few months usually.

That, and well, Because Ardra is ruled by Shiva and My Sun is Ardra making me one Bad A** :-)

by the way George you should really get my level 1 astro class recordings -- (level 2 also) this subject is covered as well as many other important astronomical qualities and powerful ways to look at the chart - it is for all levels but really could fill in a lot of important gaps for those who have been dabbling for a while. You have a great mind for it.

Hey Sam, this is George in Oakland.

Question: What in the world is "Ardra-Galactic" ayanamsa, and why do you use that??

Dont most vedic astrologers use Lahiri ayanamsa?

It obviously makes a big difference ... whether
Rahu/Ketu change signs today, or November 9th

Wish we could all be on the same page!
