The exalted Sun

sadasiva | Forecasts | Thursday, April 26th, 2007

The Sun is currently exalted in Aries. Actually the degree of exaltation for the Sunday’s 10°, he just past that a couple of days ago — but the sun is still very powerful at 12° Aries currently.

The Sun is the ego trying to become liberated and know itself truthfully, for lack of a better way to put it. The ego is the Self expressed in the world — the mistaken identity, who we think we are. The self is not related to any quality of limitation. That includes the body, mind, even some spirit idea that somehow experiences happiness for itself.

No, there is only one self — it is pervasive in all forms, ideas, spirits and everything else.

This notion is very hard, if not impossible for the mind to grasp. Even when we think of our Self as a liberated entity, some quality of it refers to an identity that has some attributes of personality. But the true Atman has no personality-type attributes, but it has qualities. The ancient Rishs have said the self is “Sat-chit-ananda” - which means wise, everywhere and joyous.

The Sun is the Atman, the self joined all selves — the energy joined all energies. Can you imagine yourself without a body, without a mind, without even a spirit, All-powerful, knowing, loving and joyous and completely free?

In Vedic thinking, in a literal and cosmic sense, the Sun and Moon together create life. The power of the Sun together with the creativity of the moon create beings on earth. Once we take a body and come to earth, we have entered duality, the realm of “2″ (the Atman is the realm of “1″). The masculine and feminine interacting — the cosmic Sun and moon. In the sky this is also true. The Sun is the power of every living being. If the Sun refused to shine, everything would die immediately.

Yet even so, the Sun’s light would be meaningless without the creativity of the moon. Life did not begin on earth until the moon. This is the reason in Vedic thinking the feminine contains the masculine, the goddess contains the God. The moon energy contains the Sun energy - giving i the t the capacity to create life.

In numerology the Sun is one, the moon is two. The temptation and habit is so deep to consider the Atman to somehow be connected to the mind/body in some way or another. It is easy to contemplate “one” and think “this individual person is a 1, that individual person is a 1″, etc. Seeing a bunch of “1’s” in the eyes we meet. But in fact, each individual is already a “2″ (at least). Actually I would say according to astrology, each person is a 9. If we could just get down to being a “2″ would probably feel pretty good.

But as it stands, the Sun and moon together create us. This thing has already happened - we are separate from ourSelves and trying to get back. Trying to feel whole again. That is the work of the Sun. Ready to sacrifice everything in order to return to the eternal and undeniable truth shining deep within us, whether we know it is shining there or not.

These issues are especially important right now with Sun exalted.

Sometimes mistaking the ego for the Self, trying to feel powerful , leads to some misdirected personal energy, as was the case last week with the mass murder at VA Tech.

An exalted Sun and a Mars / Rahu conjunction led to this unfortunate event.

more later on that,..

Best wishes,

Don Imus Fired

sadasiva | Forecasts | Friday, April 13th, 2007

As I’m sure everyone is aware of at this point, there has been a huge controversy in news that resulted from radio personality Don Imus making off color “jokes” about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team last week. Yesterday, Mr Imus was fired for these actions. Let’s take a look at what happened.

I do not have an accurate birth Time for Dom Imus, so that makes things a little more difficult. But we can tell a lot about this incident just based on the position of his planets and where the transiting planets were when he made his now infamous “nappy headed ho” comment.

Given that his birth Time is not precisely accurate, the moon is somewhere around 20° Aquarius - early Pisces. At that same time last week, the North node, Mercury (and Uranus) were hovering nearby. Also, Mars was in early Aquarius.

The moon is a main planet of fame as its has a lot to do with how we are perceived by others. With Mercury having just past Rahu couple days earlier, and still pretty closely conjoined, it is easy to see how someone could misspeak, thinking they were being funny, but actually wind up offending many people - hurting their recognition, reputation in the process.

It is interesting to note that Mercury and Mars are somewhat on different ends of the exaltation / debilatation spectrum on this day. Mars is at about 5° Aquarius — Mercury is almost 27 Aquarius. Thus, Mars is about 7° from his exaltation position, and Mercury is about 4° from his debilitation sign. Mars is still pretty powerful here, at least expressing himself powerfully having just been exalted. Mercury is getting weaker and weaker heading toward debilatation. This comment was made last Wednesday, by Friday evening mercury was in his debilatation sign and a full uproar had already begun. In less than a week, Mr Imus would be offering many apologies, having numerous public figures demanding his termination, and eventually wind up being fired for these remarks.

Also poignant is the sign of Aquarius, the sign of social equality. Leo, the opposite sign from Aquarius, is the sign of personal strength and power — where we learn to shine individually, and be personally responsible for ourselves. Aquarius is where we learn to yield our personal power and responsibility in recognition of each person’s individuals strength and responsibilities to higher, societal causes - things bigger than ourselves. The outcry over these comments seems to be touching larger societal issues. From the outset the black leaders who have been challenging Mr Imus have also been scrutinized for their failure to also criticize black musical artists, comedians and others who use the same terms regularly and who actually introduced these terms into the lexicon in first place. In many ways Imus is a symbol for a greater societal dialogue about marginalizing women and minorities. Indeed it seems everyone has forgiven Imus personally, even stating that it is not about him. Yet, It is agreed that he should be fired on principal as the public airwaves cannot sanction this type of dialogue. All of these larger themes are Aquarian in nature. The individual must be sacrificed for a greater cause.

As how this personally relates to Mr. Imus and his chart/Karma. No public humiliation or loss of reputation would be complete without the influence of Saturn. And wouldn’t you know, retrograde Saturn is in Cancer now, where Imus has Mercury, the Sun and most notably, a debilitated Mars.

The chart itself is also quite interesting. Especially of note is the very tight Square between Jupiter and Mercury by transit, recently separating to the second of orb. There’s an exchange of Nakshatra rulership between Mercury and Jupiter. Mercury is in Purva Bhadra, ruled by Jupiter - and Jupiter is in Jyeshta, ruled by Mercury. The deity associated with Jyestha, is Lord Indra - the king of the gods. Indra is notorious for having a large ego and feeling he is somewhat above the law due to his past conquests. The ruler of Purva Bhadra is Aja ekapad, the one footed goat - related to lightning. (lightning hits the earth in one point - one foot) Lightning symbolizes atmospheric fire striking the earth, bringing about sudden, shocking changes. Aja Ekapad is one of the 11 Rudras, the protectors of Veda (knowledge). Another interesting Nakshatra consideration is retrograde Saturn is in Mercury’s Nakshatra (aslesha) - the Sun is also in Mercury’s Nakshatra (Revati).

Mercury Debilitated - Venus in Taurus - Mars joins Rahu

sadasiva | Forecasts | Monday, April 9th, 2007

Mercury just moved into his sign of the debilitation, the sign of Pisces, a couple of days ago. Mercury is exalted in Virgo, the rational, grounded detail oriented sign. This is because Mercury is related to organizing the details into a useful paradigm that allows us to focus on the important facets of any project or situation. Mercury also allows us to be neutral and fair-minded when assessing those details. These qualities are enhanced by the sign of Virgo — Mercury rules Virgo. The opposite sign of Pisces is one of dreams, projections, fantasies, hopes. All of these things undermine the neutrality, flexibility and speed necessary to organize the details properly. In many ways Mercury is like an accountant. The nature of Virgo shows an assessment based on rational proof and thoroughness. The nature of Pisces is like having the accountant on drugs or basing the budget on hopes and dreams. Not a good thing.

Mercury is the speech giver, because effective speech implies neutrality and skill with the details. A good speaker can take many pieces of information and convey them in an understandable manner. He may pull up anecdotes from the past and tie the current subject in with related subjects. All of this implies a quick and flexible mind, the traits of Mercury. Of course we all like speaking to people like that. They are interesting and fun. When Mercury is debilitated the emotions tend to override that flexibility, leading to confusion. Be careful in your relationships for the next couple of weeks while Mercury transit’s Pisces.

Venus entered Taurus at the end of last week, after being in Aries for a month. Have you noticed how everything seems a little more beautiful suddenly? Are you feeling more forgiving all of a sudden? This is the nature of Venus in her own sign of Taurus. The awareness of beauty brings us an appreciation of life and a sense of gratitude for the beautiful things we have and people we know. This is why Venus is related to diplomacy, appreciation and valuing others. But when Venus is in Taurus, we may see some heightened sensuality come forth.

This heightened diplomacy could come in handy now that Mars is joined the North node and Uranus. April 20-24 could be a very difficult time. Especially with things exploding, anger, toxins and radiation. During these days Mars will be in a tight aspect to the North node. Mars is related to anger, explosions, accidents and the North node is related to poisons, radiation. Mars will also be opposing South node from the sign of Leo. Additionally, Mars is in conjunction to Uranus at that time, within a close degree. Mars will perfect the transit of Uranus four days later on April 28.

Astrology forecast April 1

sadasiva | Forecasts | Sunday, April 1st, 2007

In October I wrote:

“My feeling is with both the South node and Saturn occupying the sign of Leo, for the next year and a half we will see power structures overturned globally. There is a changing of the guard underway. Let’s just hope it is not too painful. As a precursor to this changing of the guard, British Prime Minister Tony Blair has already stated he will not seek another term. My feeling is in this country, Democrats will reclaim a majority in at least one chamber of Congress. The very strong opposition to President Bush both from Democrats and within his own party will become more aggressive, perhaps even leading to articles of impeachment. This will have a profound effect globally, emboldening our adversaries enforcing very hard decisions upon us. No matter how we look at it, the stature of the United States as a unchecked superpower will be diminished greatly”.

There is a Venus / Saturn Square taking place in the sky right now which is indicative of the current elevated state of unrest in the Middle East — especially relative to international diplomacy, the realm of Venus. As I discuss a couple of weeks ago when Venus moved into Aries, there is a lot more tension, and less capacity for compromise with Venus in Aries, the sign of the Ram. When planets are in a square from each other, there’s a friction that is created. This friction eventually creates movement as the awakened energy seeks a release point. The difficulty is that friction creates heat, and these release points can be flash points if we are not careful. The protests outside of the British Embassy this weekend are scary reminder of the destructive potential.

A couple of weeks ago Saturn and Mars were in opposition to each other. The opposition is also a hard aspect, a transit of friction — from two opposing points of view.
In this country we can see heated rhetoric between Democrats and Republicans — especially the Democratic controlled Congress and the Republican president. The line in the sand has been drawn by the president, promising a veto of legislation that inhibits his open-ended approach to the Iraqi conflict.

The Saturn/Mars opposition reflects these are types.
Mars is the planet of breaking down barriers, Saturn is the planet of erecting them. Mars is the planet of warfare, Saturn is the planet of peace. Saturn is called Shani in Vedic astrology - Shanti (peace) comes from this word. Mars is the planet of revolution and rebellion, Saturn is the planet of the status quo.

This Mars/Saturn opposition, that perfected on March 21, set into motion the events we are seeing today. The Democratic controlled Congress is rebelling against the president and his conservative, stay the course, status quo approach — and the Iraqi government is rebelling against the landed power structure of the Western military presence by detaining British soldiers.

VEDIC ASTROLOGY BHAVAS (HOUSES) | ASCENDANTS CLASS

In Vedic astrology the functional nature of each planet is determined by which houses it rules from the ascendant. This unique feature of Vedic astrology brings a level of dynamism not found in other systems.
EX:
A gentle planet like Venus can be very destructive for certain people. A first-rate malefic like Saturn is actually the best planet for certain signs.

For far too long Vedic astrology students have been fuzzy on how to apply these rules and where to look for answers.
