Mars Exalted in Capricorn

sadasiva | Forecasts | Monday, March 26th, 2007

Yesterday Mars was at his highest point of exultation, 28° of Capricorn. The last several days / the last week could have been very intense, with volatility, frustration and erupting emotions. This is due to a powerful Saturn/Mars opposition that occurred through much of last week. Yet there has been real creative possibility with these frustrations and eruptions.

Mars is the planet of strength. His influence is to strengthen us in one way or another. His transit through Capricorn, his sign of exultation is always a time where we the can take powerful action, usually to strengthen an area of life where we have been fearfully clinging to some sense of worldly security. A fearful clinging to worldly security are the lower traits of Capricorn. For you see, not only does Capricorn exalt Mars, but Mars resurrects Capricorn. It works like this.

Mars is the planet of action, in the moment. He is impatient, immediate, black-and-white - just like the nature of our actions. We’re only doing one thing at a time. We are directed toward a goal. This is the nature of Mars, reaching the goal as directly and quickly as possible. Mars is also a Tamasic planet, motivated to remove suffering by destroying obstacles in our way. The nature of Mars is destruction, which is not necessarily bad — it all depends on what we are destroying. If we are destroying obstacles in our way, Mars is very useful and we become strengthened in the process. We learn to take care of ourselves and to fight the right battles and align our energy toward a worthy goal. However, we may also destroy the wrong things, the things we hope would bring us happiness and peace, like our relationships with people, or our peace of mind for instance. Mars is not very good with people and complexity of any sort.

Capricorn is the sign of our tangible, worldly fears and the stress and worry caused by them. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the planet of our fears. Capricorn is a female sign, which shows these fears internalized, personalized and reflect upon. Saturn is the planet of longevity and time unfolding. Saturn brings the awareness of time unfolding, which is the root source of all fear. Once we become aware of time, we become aware of limitation and the need for structure. All of these things are related to Saturn. For example, when we are living in the present moment we can simply enjoy our meal, enjoy the day in a carefree manner. But once we become aware that we will need to eat every day, not just today — we need a place to sleep not just tonight but every night, suddenly seriousness sets in, a sense of responsibility — a fear. This fear makes us grow up and be responsible for ourselves. In many ways, how we handle fear shows our true mettle, the true depth of our character. All of our personal insecurities and shortcomings become exposed during this process.

Through the sign of Capricorn we will put into place a structure that will be the container for our life. Yet our life may be lived simply in hopes of avoiding pain, rather than growing toward the truth. We all must face the painful psychological complexes that are unearthed through Capricorn if we were to grow beyond our material terrors.

The courageous and impulsive nature of Mars operates perfectly through the cautious, patient nature of Capricorn. For the last month and a half those darker, fearful parts of our psyche have been focused on and strengthened, not by theory or ideas, but by action — courageous action. We’ve been taking powerful action not simply aligned with the moment, but oriented toward a long-term goal, an important goal. When faced with the possibility of just mechanically lashing out at people, we have waited, reflected, and been a little more willing to consider the possibility that our problems are mainly internal and not with the objects of our anger. This reflection has clarified our confusion around these internal/external issues. We are reaching the point where we are certain which external situations need to be changed in our life and which psychological, internal ones need to be addressed. Having these realizations, we are ready to take the proper action to strengthen our inner self and better orient our outer world to facilitate that growth. This is a powerful process that has likely brought about greater maturity. Yes, we feel like were growing up now.

Vedic AstroCast - Sun in Pisces / New Class

sadasiva | Forecasts | Friday, March 16th, 2007

The sun is the source of power in the astrology chart and in life. Without the sun there is no life whatsoever. If the sun exploded or stopped shining, everything would die very quickly. With all of our modern sophistication, it it’s amazing how most people do not remember this simple fact.

As such, it is the qualities of the sun in our birth chart and by transit that shows the nature by which we seek to access our personal strength and power.

Through the prism of the ego the infinite light of the sun gets filtered, leaving parts of our psyche in darkness. Once we begin living a more examined life our inner sun begins to illuminate the dark corners of our soul. Once illuminated, these darker parts of our self become resurrected.

There’s a classical yoga story that illustrates this point. It is the story of the snake and the rope. In darkness a coiled rope may have the appearance of a snake. If we encounter this coiled rope we may react as if we have seen a snake: by fearfully jumping out of the way, with our heartbeat racing, etc. For all intents and purposes, in that moment the rope IS a snake. Yet if we produce a flashlight and shine it upon the coiled rope, all of our symptoms disappear — the truth is revealed. Nothing more needs to be done. The appearance of light removes darkness and magically our imagined symptoms disappear. Additionally, once we see the truth we don’t forget. After we realize that the coiled rope is not a snake, we don’t then forget this and react in fear again after we turn flashlight off. No, we remember — and if we are smart, that experience changes us and gives us insight into the nature of our illusory perceptions.

This is the nature of the sun, to separate us from the darker parts of our being. The sun refers to the greatest possibility we have, the possibility of enlightenment. Yet it requires enormous sacrifice, in fact the ultimate sacrifice. What is that sacrifice? It requires us to sacrifice those familiar shadows of self that we hang onto, those shadows of the ego that gives us a sense of worldly identity. Living in full power and full clarity is a scary prospect, because it demands we grow up and become responsible for who we are now and where we’re going, rather than hang onto the disempowering blame assessed to the perpetrators in our past. As long as we are still a victim, living in the past, we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes, marching lockstep in accordance with our negative programming. Of all the planets, the sun refers to all we are becoming and are true desire to be self actualized. That’s self actualization begins with reclaiming the reins of personal strength, power and integrity.

The sun just entered Pisces on March 14. The sun in Pisces offers a great opportunity for us to dig deeper into mystical teachings, religion and spirituality as a means of self actualization. Creativity, music, teaching and all forms of inner expansion will be supported until April 13, when the sun enters Aries — where the cycle begins again. Pisces is the sign of completions, returning home, liberation, freedom from bondage and an egoistic self-identity.

There will be a solar eclipse March 19 at approximately 3:33 GMT, that is about 10:30 p.m. EDT on Sunday, March 18 — 7:30 p.m. PDT on Sunday, March 18. During this time it would be very beneficial to meditate on your emerging spiritual progress and to internally declare what you’re willing to sacrifice toward that emerging spiritual path. This positive intention will be particularly powerful during this time.

VEDIC ASTROLOGY BHAVAS (HOUSES) | ASCENDANTS CLASS
http://vedicastrologycenter.net/bhavas-class.html

In Vedic astrology the functional nature of each planet is determined by which houses it rules from the ascendant. This unique feature of Vedic astrology brings a level of dynamism not found in other systems.
EX:
A gentle planet like Venus can be very destructive for certain people. A first-rate malefic like Saturn is actually the best planet for certain signs.

For far too long Vedic astrology students have been fuzzy on how to apply these rules and where to look for answers.

In this new class the important and overlooked rules from the “Yoga Karaka” Chapter of Brihat Parashara Hora Sastra will be illuminated with great clarity. This important chapter details the specific rules that determine planetary behavior based on House rulership.

Venus in Aries - March 12 - April 6

sadasiva | Forecasts | Monday, March 12th, 2007

Venus is the planet of beauty, love and compromise. This makes Venus the main planet of relationships. Most of our relationship desires revolve around things ruled by Venus. In many ways you can say simply that Venus is the planet of our desires.

What do we really desire? Actually, we all desire the same thing ultimately, to be happy. Venus is the planet of worldly happiness. It is what makes the senses feel good — what makes love feel good — it is what makes God alive in us. Our first experiences with God are usually through beautiful experiences in nature or with other people, or some other uplifting and powerfully enjoyable experience. Of course there is also the connection to God that comes through difficulty. Yet while our mind is tormented with difficulty, we are not seeing God. Difficulties are often the catalyst that leads us to truth, and that which is beyond our smaller ego. Yet the moment of a God experience comes as a moment of deep surrender and love. This is the magic alchemy of Venus — turning personal pleasure into divine love.

In Vedic astrology the planets rule two signs. Usually one of those signs is what’s called the mulatrikona sign. It is through this sign that the planet derives its worldly power. For Venus, the mulatrikona, is Libra — the sign of compromise and choice. Through the sign of Libra we learn to value the desires and wishes of others equal to our own. This is exactly opposite the sign of Aries, where our own inspirations and individual drives take precedent. Ultimately, the more of our own individual desires we are willing to let go of, the more happiness we will have, in the less drained we will be in pursuit of it.

This is simply because most of our suffering is due to our ego and our limited self projected onto our infinite nature. In Libra there is indecision about how everyone’s needs can be met. This indecision is more intellectual in nature as Libra is an air sign. Air is related to discrimination and thinking — not feeling (water), not action (fire), or form (Earth).

The mulatrikona sign shows the origin of earthly power a planet expresses. Yet there is an even higher expression, an otherworldly one, shown by the exaltation sign. Venus is exalted in Pisces, the sign of mysticism and the cosmic mind.

Venus had been exalted in Pisces for a month until today. This exalted Venus had given the promise of many renewed spiritual insights as well as increased love, devotion, art and appreciation for our self and others.

Now that Venus has left Pisces, and entered Aries, we may expect a more selfish direction toward our desires. Also, we will tend to dissipate our vitality and energy in pursuit of those passions. Generally, when Venus is in fire signs passions are very high. The passionate nature of Venus is not one so given to her highest goal of compromise and fairness.

Fire is the element of action — it’s direction is forward — it’s motivation is personal — it leads to anger when frustrated.
Air is the element of thinking — it’s direction is side to side — it’s motivation is social — it leads to indecision when frustrated.

Not only does the nature of fire signs disrupt Venus, but Venus disrupts the nature of Aries as well. Aries is ruled by Mars and shows the nature of personally inspired actions moving us forward in life. As was mentioned, Venus is not the planet of personal inspirations, is the planet of personal gratification — they are different.

Our fiery inspirations are oriented towards a long-term goal, aligned with our principles. Hopefully there is disciplined sacrifice and clarity involved. None of those things are important to Venus. She is not disciplined; she tends to be lazy. Venus is not interested in personal long-term motivations, she’s interested in the present moment and other people primarily. Venus is not interested in our individual principles and sacrificing worldly happiness for them; she’s interested in worldly happiness and adapting to the principles of others and creating harmony out of chaos if possible.

Thus, for the next month we must be careful with our individual desires disrupting our personal, long-term goals — and also we must watch our self willed motivated nature disrupting our relationships.

This would be a good month to become disciplined about your relationship and implement practical strategies to improve things and courageously face some issues in your relationship. Especially for spiritual couples, doing Yoga or other types of sadhana together could be very powerful. As for your long-term goals, with Venus in Aries you can bring more of a personal element to them. Connect your personally inspired vision to the inspirations of others and see where you can compromise and be more inclusive. Become motivated and focused toward compromise and being inclusive.
