Nine Days of the Divine Mother

sadasiva | Forecasts | Saturday, September 30th, 2006

blessed selves,

We have been in the midst of the Divine Mother celebration, the nine-day celebration that takes place each year. The first three days are to the goddess Durga, the goddess of destruction. The next three days are to the goddess are Lakshmi, the goddess of sustenance an abundance. The last three days are to the goddess Saraswati, the goddess of learning and creativity.

In Astrology, all forms of the goddess are related to the Moon. The Moon refers to the quality of integration we all wish to experience. We all wish to feel whole. We suffer in life because our wholeness becomes fragmented through our worldly experience. And seeks to feel one. Thus the Moon is the planet of our psychology and its fragmented nature.

We celebrate goddess Durga first because it is she who must destroy our ignorance. There’s no peace with ignorance, fear or hostility. Once these attributes are destroyed, love can settle into our heart as well as peace and prosperity. We can live a happy life and feel at home through the blessings of goddess Lakshmi, the second form of the goddess. It’s not until we feel peaceful and happy that we are able to learn and be creative, the blessings of Mother Saraswati.

When our heart and mind are disturbed with darkness and ignorance, there is no learning possible. Thus we must destroy ignorance first, then we settle into peace, only with a peaceful mind can we learn.

May you enjoy the rest of the nine days. They began last Saturday night and continue until Tuesday of next week, with the 10th day, the day of celebration.

below is a dialogue I recently had with someone about the nature of Saturn and the Moon and the process of integration.

sadasiva wrote:
the sanskrit term for Saturn is “Shani”

the word “Shanti” comes from Saturns name

Shanti means “peace”

we need to make peace with our limitations and not allow them to calcify, crystallize etc.

the heaviness and pressure of Saturn threatens us with this ominous possibility through the painful psyhological complexes and physial fears he generates so as to liberate us - eventually we can laugh at all of the rigid external and feeble structures we/he has erected in hopes of protecting us from,.. from,.. from,.. (what is it again?)

in Vedic thinkin - Saturn is the Goddess Kali - the destrutive and liberating fierce warrior goddess –

Kali is the feminine form of “Kala” - which means time.

the ineveitability of times merciful progress is our greatest fear — we all know where this is leading

I love the saying.. “life is like getting into a boat that is about to set off to sea and sink” –

ummm, sam… i totally agree with your interpretations of saturn’s threats and pressures….but i’m not talking about making peace with my limitations. i’m talking about doing whatever we need to do with them in order to inegrate them. i’m talking about ‘inegration’, which is not necessarily peaceful or about making peace.

dear star,

i dunno, maybe there is that portion of it? but to me it’s more about ‘recognizing’ that enemy, or whatever, trouble, process, whatever that saturnian energy brings…and inegrating it.
do we need to make peace with it in order to inegrate it?
i’m not sure….”

my feeling is we need to make peace in order to integrate - because there may be only one enemy - and it is more shadow-like that substance - it refers to a past we have lost and a future we only imagine — TIME,,

The moon is the only one that integrates and it is through receptivity and love, the true courage. Saturn grinds our preconceptions to a fine powder so the Moon can do her magic — diluting our solid concepts - so we can pour them into the watery moon - like alka seltzer or Kool-Aid.

I would contend we are already inegrated and merely need to loosen the hold we have on the attachment to something other than perfection.

I am feeling rather mystical as you can see –

i am more speaking in ultimates here, not practical strategies..

taking on water,

hmmm, not sure i resonate with all of that. i think the platenary energies are a bit more multidimensional as just to assign a task to them specifically.
can saturn not ingegrate itself? is there no higher degrees of saturn?

“can saturn not ingegrate itself? is there no higher degrees of saturn? “

there’s nothing lower about doing his job with dignity. In fact this is also quality of Saturn, doing thankless menial jobs. Saturn rules those things. There’s no implied “lower” quality of non integration. In fact Saturn does integrate his own energy in the way we are saying. He takes those boundaries and structures, and in smashes them to bits. But it is the nature of the Moon to integrate our energy and take this dissolved boundary quality of Saturn and harmoniously integrate that into our heart and consciousness. That is what I mean. So of course, each planet integrates and transforms itself. Yet the planet that seeks to make us a whole being in the world is the Moon.

There is nothing undignified about what each planet actually does. We can’t expect Saturn, the planetary force within us that provides structure, heaviness, limitations, etc. to also integrate those things into her heart through selfless love, surrender and nurturing. That is why there are a bunch of different planets with a bunch of different energies. The dignified and magical quality of each one, and how they interrelate, is what astrology is showing. It’s like saying “can Saturn also fight to the death” - well, no - that is the nature of Mars. You will see people with a tendency to violence have Mars as the culprit, not Saturn, not the Moon.

Just like we cannot expect the Moon to erect boundaries. it is the Moon that dissolves boundaries. The Moon is the part of us that wants to feel one with everything. I know this might feel limiting, because we want everything to be everything. But then at that point nothing is anything.

i find it so strange that you say it does not put up boundries…. when cancers display a range of moodyness and boundries and shells of all sorts. some hard as rock, some a bit more flexible…i thought the moon was directly responsible for this.

star,
thanks for sticking with this. I will do my best to try to write this down a little bit. It’s sort of hard in these Internet blips and blaps.

I will start with the example of a cancer sign. Of course you use cancer as an example because they are ruled by the Moon, and they are notorious for boundaries correct?

A few things: every sign is actually 12 signs, read from a specific point. Cancer is actually all 12 signs read from the sign of cancer.

Question, Where do cancer’s biggest insecurities come from?
Answer: other people.

Question, which sign is related to other people from cancer?
Answer, Capricorn, the seventh house, ruled by Saturn –

the sign of cancer provides a very good example to see how and why Saturn creates these boundaries. Especially when you look at the traditional ruler ships. Saturn not only rules the seventh house from cancer he also rules the eight house from cancer, Aquarius. thus, the seventh house of other people and the eight house of our deepest fears and securities, Saturn rules from cancer.

from Aries, Saturn rules the 10th and 11th house. The biggest fears and securities from Aries is not being powerful enough and feeling their individual personality watered-down amongst the masses, 10th and 11th house.

I’m talking about rising signs in the Sidereal zodiac. I’m not sure if it always worked use in the tropical zodiac to be honest with you.

the Moon as integrating.
The Sun and Moon are the two luminaries. They are the most important planets in astrology and in life. There would be no life on earth without the Sun and the Moon. Forget astrology, this is life beyond astrology. This is why there’s life on Earth. Sun’s power, and the Moon’s creative orbit around the earth. These two forces of nature are the reason there’s life on Earth. If either one of them stop doing their thing tomorrow, everything would be dead real quick.

Sun is the planet of consistent power and strength. Every other planet reflects the Sun’s light - each planet is but a smaller portion of Sun’s power.

The Moon is the planet of receptivity, sensitivity and consciousness. It is the creative matrix through which the power of Sun can create beings on Earth.

Sun without the Moon, is simply power without life — the Moon without the Sun would also have no purpose or capacity to create life.

these two arhetypical forces, are the forces of the yin and yang. The other planets express these yin/yong qualities through the other signs they rule.

The signs of Leo and the sign of cancer, each ruled by one of the luminaries, are the source of the masculine and feminine interplay. It is through whatever sign Cancer Falls from your Ascendant that you will be the most challenged to integrate life experiences. It is from whatever sign Leo Falls from your Ascendant that you will have the most confidence and power to act with integrity and strength as the Sun illuminates you from that place.

It is hard to even really understand what the archetypical feminine means, because feminine energy is so misunderstood. Feminine energy does not have to do with women - it has to do with receptivity. Being receptive is not an action, its an allowance - a yielding - a letting go of resistance – a surrender of our protection.

The reason we feel fragmented and unintegrated is because we have resistance to things we are afraid to receive. We are protecting our Moon, that most vulnerable and defenseless part of who we are. The Moon shows our childhood, and time in our life when we were utterly vulnerable and impressionable. We were receptive, we had no choice, and many things we received hurt us and scared us. Now we have a lot of boundaries and protective strategies against things that are hurtful. The fight response, Mars — protection through anger — and the flight response, Saturn — protection through avoidance and fear. Returning to that fearless place of trust and vulnerability is the gateway to being integrated again. This only happens through being receptive, the qualities of the Moon.

This may be a lot take in, and you likely not hear it many other places, because it’s more of my take on things. Influences to the Moon show why we are unintegrated. This is why the Moon is the main planet of our psychology as well, and the protective strategies and coping mechanisms we have based on our childhood.

Running in the woods, being creative, if these type of things help a person integrate their feelings — there will be in influence of those planets on the Moon. Physical exercise is related mainly to the Sun, but also Mars. Mars is more competitive sports, the Sun is physical fitness in general. Venus is creativity and also natural beauty. Mercury is also related to natural beauty.

Feeling unappreciated lately?

sadasiva | Forecasts | Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Blessed selves,

Combustion occurs when a planet gets too close to the Sun. When this happens, the rays of that planet get burnt by the power of the Sun. The sun is the planet of clarity illumination and power., yet it can also burn. It’s great to spend today at the beach in the Sun, but we better wear sunblock. The same is true with planets when they become combust, too close to the Sun. There’s a certain energizing power, yet there’s also a depletion of capacity due to the proximity of the Sun. The nature of the Sun is to burn off impurities. There’s a productive quality to his energy. For combustion we burn off the impurities associated with the worldly quality of the combust planet.

Currently, Venus and Mars have been combust for quite awhile now, several weeks. They will remain combust until the middle of November. This is a longtime for two planets to be combust at the same time. The symptoms of combustion are a hypersensitivity and touchiness to the things related to those planets. With Venus, there is a hyper sensitivity to feeling valued and respected. With Mars, there is a hypersensitivity to not feeling powerful or courageous. Have you noticed everyone is feeling insulted and easily hurt lately? (Of course were not talking about you!) A typical scenario with Venus combust is as follows. If a person has Venus combust in their birth chart many times they will not feel respected by partners, which will compel them to do things to try to please the partner in order to get some appreciation. Perhaps doing a favor for them, making themselves look nice, or try to please them. Yet those efforts will likely not yield the level of appreciation they want, thus resulting in an angry display of emotion in the aftermath. Many times you’ll see in the childhood of a person who has combust Venus, that they were not valued or appreciated. Perhaps parents were too busy to appreciate what the child has done, creating a wound around this. Thus as adults a wound persists. They never feel appreciated, they don’t feel cherished, they do things to try to get approval, yet have unreal expectations around the issue. With Mars the issue is power. Perhaps an older brother picked on them, perhaps their father or mother was a very bullying type of person. Thus as an adults, scenarios where their personal power is threatened will bring forth a sort of fight to the death argument.

From now until the middle of November, be very careful with perceived slights being blown out of proportion and turned into do or die power plays. A good example of this was on display with President Clinton last week. He certainly lost his cool in that interview with Fox TV. President Clinton is generally quite adept at handling critics and not losing his temper. Yet you could see he had enough, he felt this respected and he would not let it go. Regardless of what people say afterwards, you can bet the president wishes he had handled that a little differently. Getting angry is never the best way to handle situation unless you’re in a fight for your life. Even then, the best martial artists are not angry. They’re thinking clearly and compassionately while they subdue their attackers.

Relocation Astrology
I perfect a lot of methods that are useful in relocation Astrology. Perhaps this is something that could help you at some point. Below is a dialogue I had with someone in a newsgroup about relocation Astrology.

Sadasiva:
it’s hard to say what works for “Vedic Astrology”, because obviously different Vedic astrologer’s work different ways. I will speak for myself - I focus on the nadir, the mid heaven, all of the four directions in the chart, trying to put planets in a directionally strong placement, Sun in the 10th, Jupiter in the first, Moon Venus in the fourth, etc. - this is one consideration.

Also I relocate entire chart and read it in the new location, I find is the only way to do it.

Also I look at each one of Vargas, because each Varga changes when you move. I found remarkable accuracy looking into these Vargas, being able to see how a person’s life changed relative to their career, relationships, etc. based on their new location.

I only do 90 minute readings for relocation because the work involved. Sometimes, what is revealed is that there is not a big difference based on different places that a person lives. But many times it will become clearly revealed what the right move is.

Sometimes it’s obvious that this person would’ve gotten the same answer from Western Astro cartography. Yet many many of my relocation clients are disappointed Astro cartography clients who moved close to a Venus line or Jupiter line only to have their life go south very quickly.I’m not saying this to try to trash Astro cartography or trash anybody else or their methods — please understand this — I am also not saying that the way I do it is the only way to get good results. No, — what I’m saying is in my opinion in order to do a thorough relocation reading, you must relocate the entire chart. The same is true with anything relative to Astrology. It is a complicated science, you must look deeply into it. There are no magic bullets.

Given that Vedic Astrology has so many powerful ways to read the chart including Vargas, dashas, dynamic house lords, this power is revealed when you’re relocate the entire chart. That is the way I do the readings but it takes a lot of work.

I’ve seen many times a person make a mistake using Astro cartography lines simplistically - hence my comments. As I said, you may get lucky and move to one of these lines that works. That is easy to do, you can find those lines very simply. The question was asked if it’s that simple or not, my answer is no.

for example, you wanna strengthen the dasa lord. Even if you move onto a Jupiter line, if you’re in a Venus dasha, you are getting the karmas of Venus. So if you’re on a Jupiter line, it might be very difficult, Jupiter and Venus are enemies. After I confirm what’s happening in the client’s life, for example relative to Venus, and clarify how Jupiter manifests in their life, it may be very apparent that moving to a Jupiter line is the wrong move. Whereas perhaps another location puts Venus in the fourth house, where she has been Dig bala strength, strengthening that angle of that dasa lord - perhaps even putting Jupiter in the 12th house, a dusthana which will remove the difficulties of Jupiter from their life. Perhaps it tightens up a certain Varga and things fall into place very easily. I’ve gotten very good feedback after these readings. The truth is, I do not even need the positive feedback because I can see the path to the answer by asking them about their history and where they lived before and comparing and contrasting how their energies manifest. They also wind up with confidence in their move after the reading. Especially if the person has moved around a lot. Because sometimes, there is no planetary line to move to. Different locations simply reorient the chart in different ways. So instead of moving to a line, we move in a way that repositions the planets in different houses.

there are a lot of possibilities, the deeper we look into the chart, the more of these details will be revealed.

DR:

Thanks Sam for all of the information and for sharing your experience with it. I have not spent a lot of time researching astrocartography, since it is not part of traditional Jyotish. When I was a Western astrologer I would cast the chart for the new location and read it like a birth chart. Now that I am learning more about the vargas, it will be very interesting to take a look at that method again. Without the vargas, some relocation charts don’t look that different from each other (same Lagna). For example, anywhere on the west coast I am a Gemini Lagna. But I can see how the vargas would show a change.

Sadasiva:
DR,
You are welcome. I studied the Astro maps also and saw them as a quick snapshot — the lines just reveal what the chart will show when you relocate it — as an astrologer it is easier to just reloate the chart then to look at those maps,, the maps can show where the lines fall, but orienting the chart to it is another matter.

here is a very recent example:
A client with Aries asc. Ketu in the 2nd birth chart (he is Indian) moves to West coast us directly on a Jupiter line, jupiter in the 6th in Virgo, placing Venus is the 2nd –

he moved here 18 years when jupiter dasa started (jupiter dasa starts and he moves to the line, happens all the time)

So he lives on a Jupiter line, yet it is jupiter in the 6th from his natal lagna - Venus in 2nd - he has had a lot of success here, but he has real trouble with health issues related to food and daily lifestyle management — weak jupiter in virgo, sensual venus in 2nd -

When he lives in India he instantly loses 20 pounds and lives healthier — ketu in 2nd whose lord is in its own Sign Mulatrikona — this is one example of this person,, the whole chart must be looked at, because everything will show — there is no such thing as “good” and “bad” — the new life will show in the new location - the only way to find out the truith of it is to either look comprehensively at it or hire someone who an do that - at least as i have found.

It takes more time, but i started to do it this way because once i realized that people were going to be making such an important life decision, i felt the responsibility to get it right
——————
DR:
Sam,

I can’t tell from your post if you are reading the relocation chart independently, or if you are referencing the client’s natal chart in the relocation reading. I will try to re-read your posts and see if I can figure out what you are doing. If you care to take the time to outline your process, I would appreciate it.
I sent somebody your way who wants a relocation reading. I hope you don’t mind me giving out your email to potential clients. I would still love to hear more about your process. I can cast a chart for the location and read it the same way I read a birth chart. I was just wondering if there’s anything else involved unique to relocation.

AstroCast 9/22/06 - Eclipse

sadasiva | Forecasts | Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

I did a radio interview earlier this week. You can listen to the interview here my web site. http://www.vedicastrologycenter.net/radio-show.html
Hear me set the world record for saying the word “actually” in five-minute time span — and hear the host Rob McConnell have a lot of fun saying “Sadasiva” — I was very tired that day, after doing two full-length readings and teaching a two hour class. He calls me at 10 o’clock at night. It took me a while to get going, but overall the interview went quite well. I read it woman’s chart live on the air which was fun. It is a 60 minutes audio.
Tomorrow’s Eclipse will be a major astrological event. To the right is the deepest conjunction of the Sun and Moon from the Eclipse event. This chart is cast for Washington DC. In this chart there are five planets in the sign of Virgo, closely conjunction the Eclipsed planets. The Sun and Moon are
both around 6°, with the Virgo Ascendant in Washington DC at 7°. What this means is as this deepest Eclipse is occurring, (about 6:40 AM) the Sun will just be rising in Washington DC, our nation’s capital. Not only the Sun and Moon, but Mercury and Mars and the South node are in Virgo, in the first house. This foretells a very transformative six months ahead for our country. The chart of the USA has a Sagittarius Ascendant, placing Virgo on the 10th house. This Eclipse in the 10th house of our nation chart, shows a deep shakeup about to happen with the power structure in our country. Of particular note, the rising sign degree is within seconds of our of the South node, the eclipsing node.notice just below the diagonal line in the lower right hand box it says :”01:29″ - at the top of that same box Ketu (Ke) is at “01:28. That is one second of arc. This is as tight a conjunction as possible in Astrology. The South node is about letting go of familiar paradigms of strength and security. We are seeing the power of the United States tested in many ways in many stages at this time. Unprecedented challenges to our leader and his leadership capacity is being seen. This of course is seen globally, yet within our own borders, there is an equal skepticism and doubt of our current leader in the path of our country. This eclipse falling squarely in the 10th house of action shows the next six months will show citizens likely taking actions which question the authority of those in power.

It is interesting to note the first eclipse that happened when rahu and Ketu entered the Pisces / Virgo axis coincided with qwhenFiftennn Pope John Paul II died, that was a solar eclipse. Fifteen days later, the day of the lunar eclipse, the current Pope was sworn in to great fanfare. And now here we are with this last eclipse in the Pisces Virgo axis and the pope who was sworn in at that time is under great pressure to resign, having committed a big PR gaffe, to say the least. The last thing moderate Muslim clerics and those in the Muslim world need at this time is for the Pope to come out fanning the flames of radical Islam. These moderate Islamic leaders are trying to counter at a very negative Islamic stereotype, the Pope did not make their jobs any easier by making inflammatory comments on the Quran.

November elections
are just around the corner, and just-in-time for the major planetary shift that will occur at that time. By the November elections, the South node and Saturn will be in the sign of Leo, and Jupiter will be in the sign of Scorpio. Leo is the sign of the King, the sign of landed power, the sign a royalty. Especially the first degrees of Leo, the Western star of Regulus and the Vedic nakshatra of Magha, is called the Royal Star. This is the section of sky where family heritage and birthright lands us in a powerful position. The planet Saturn will occupy that nakshatra during the November elections, likely showing an overturned of many incumbents officials. My feeling is with both the South node and Saturn occupying the sign of Leo, for the next year and a half we will see power structures overturned globally. There is a changing of the guard underway. Let’s just hope it is not too painful. As a precursor to this changing of the guard, British Prime Minister Tony Blair has already stated he will not seek another term. My feeling is in this country, Democrats will reclaim a majority in at least one chamber of Congress. The very strong opposition to President Bush both from Democrats and within his own party will become more aggressive, perhaps even leading to articles of impeachment. This will have a profound effect globally, emboldening our adversaries enforcing very hard decisions upon us. No matter how we look at it, the stature of the United States as a unchecked superpower will be diminished greatly.
